Snowshoe hike at the F.X. Shea Town Forest

On Saturday, January 14th, 2012 about 20 people gathered at the town forest for a snowshoe trek along the recently designated blue trail.
Val Stori organized the event, and the weather cooperated, making a wonderful winter day in the woods.
Val provided hot chocolate and Anne McKinsey took these pictures.

Val Stori, Ken Linge, Dave and Wendy Wieland-Alter, Frank Roderick, Anne McKinsey, Holly and Chris Groschner, Ginny Barlow, Penny Andrew, Dina Dubois and Rik Sheridan spent about 3 hours clearing brush and putting markers along the trail.  Digby and Hazel loved it too.
A very productive and good time was had by all!

Outdoor Adventure

On August 10, 2011 Val Stori along with Ken Linge from the Blake Memorial Library hosted an Outdoor Adventure Series activity at the Shea Town Forest. They read aloud from the book, My Side of the Mountain, and built survival shelters, learned about wild edibles, and drew maps of the forest indicating water, food, and shelter.

Opening Celebration at the F. X. Shea Town Forest
on Sunday, June 12, 2011 noon to 2pm was a huge success
At the end of Wilson Rd (1st right from Coppermine Rd off Center Rd)

About 75 people came to the land to thank Sue Shea, help cut the ceremonial ribbon, and choose from a variety of half-hour walks through the forest. There was a tree identification walk by Mike Scott, a bird-watching walk by John Sutton, a search for wildflowers by Wendy Wieland-Alter, and a kid’s nature-based scavenger hunt by Dina Dubois. Penny and Jerry Andrew led a trail walk.
This was followed by lunch at the Town Hall in Cookeville. Randy and Kelly McFarline provided a wonderful barbecue and many others contributed tasty dishes. No one went hungry!
